The Serif Renaissance
For the past decade, sans-serif fonts like Helvetica, Inter, and Roboto dominated digital interfaces. They were chosen for their readability on low-resolution mobile screens.
However, with modern high-density displays (Retina, OLED) and high-speed CSS engines, this technical constraint is gone. Luxury brands are returning to serif fonts to convey heritage, authority, and craftsmanship.
Typography Pairing Rules
To maintain high readability while delivering editorial style, follow these pairing rules:
- **Serif for Headers**: Use a classic serif like Cormorant Garamond for main headlines (`h1`, `h2`) to create a strong visual focal point.
- **Sans-Serif for Body**: Use a clean, geometric sans-serif like Outfit or Inter for paragraph text (`body`, `li`) to preserve reading legibility.
- **Contrast Weights**: Pair light serif headers (e.g. font-weight 200) with solid body weights (e.g. font-weight 400) to create a striking typographic rhythm.
